About Dr Sue Peacock

Dr Sue PeacockAs a Consultant Health Psychologist I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and am an Associate Fellow of The British Psychological Society. I have a PhD in psychology. I am an Advanced Hypnotherapy Practitioner registered on the General Hypnotherapy Register, I am an EMDR practitioner and have diplomas in Neuro-linguistic programming and life coaching.

Having worked in the NHS for over 20 years, I now run an independent practice, providing specialist psychological therapy. The focus is on improving people’s ability to manage their health conditions and adjust to the different circumstances and challenges faced, so that stress reduces and the quality of their general life can improve. The ultimate aim is to enable clients to live fulfilling lives despite their health conditions.

Work approach

The therapy I offer can be best understood as CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), hypnotherapy, NLP (neuro-linguistic programming), relaxation therapy and coaching. However, I use a variety of psychological principles and theories in my clinical practice, drawn from a broad knowledge base of various different therapeutic techniques/ approaches and clinical expertise gained over the years. This enables me to tailor an approach suitable to meet the needs of the person sitting in front of me at any given time.

Broadly, I consider how life experiences affect each person I see, in terms of how they view themselves, how they think, how this makes them feel, behave towards others, live within their relationships and their broader world. All this information can be drawn on to highlight the best way forward for the person, to break the cycles of unhappiness, discontent or distress that he or she is currently trapped in.
